DESCRIPTION
Finalist project in the multidisciplinary landscape architecture competition for the design of a public plaza near the borough's new aquatic complex. Entitled “Au cœur des boisés” (In the heart of the woods), the project celebrates citizens' connection to their environment by offering a place where sustainable development is embodied in the landscape. Bustling with activity both on a daily basis and during events, the square becomes the civic heart of the borough: a welcoming and democratic space where paths converge. Surrounding the square, the woods stretch out and drape themselves over the landscape, with a waterway winding through them, featuring evolving typologies—wet forest, dry stream, floodplain—that serve both as witnesses to rainfall and as educational tools. In a spirit of resource conservation and frugality, the project proposes the deployment of a variety of circular strategies, enabling carbon neutrality to be achieved in 28 years. Weaving links throughout the St-Jean block, the “Au cœur des boisés” plaza takes root and radiates beyond its boundaries.
